The Gerbera Daisy appears to have one flower – the capitulum – but it’s actually composed of hundreds of individual flowers. The Gerbera is very diverse and is popular as a decorative garden plant and as cut flowers. It is, in fact, one of the top 5 cut flowers. This flower is attractive bees, butterflies and birds but resistant to deer. These little beauties come in a variety of sizes and a sea of bright sunny colors.
Rudbeckia, a member of the sunflower and also know as the Black Eyed Susan. These produce daisy like flowers in yellow and orange. They are the state flower of Maryland – who is known for it’s love of horses. These bright beautiful flowers are in the limelight every year in May – with the running of the Preakness. The Black Eyed Susan (the name of a filly race held before the Preakness) are used to make the blanket that is draped over the grand winner in the second race of the Triple Crown Series.
The zinnia is also a member of the sunflower family but in the daisy family. These bright little pops of color are one of the easiest annuals to grow. They grow quickly and bloom heavily providing a massive burst of color in your garden. They make a great cut flower and are used in many floral arrangements. They are an excellent source for window boxes and containers.
