Battlefield Farms is creating better products that are better for the environment. We’re greening our company by using resources efficiently and supporting renewable power. That means when you use Battlefield Farms products, you’re being better to the environment. Since 2010 we have participated in a Sustainability Certification Program called MPS-ABC. Every month we submit our consumption of energy, water, waste, crop protection agents and fertilizers. MPS collects our data, performs audits and grades us alongside other participating greenhouses in the United States and Europe. We have a social responsibility to foster a sustainable future and make tomorrow a better place to live.

General manager Anthony van Hoven said the company has already taken several steps to making the operation, which has 40 acres of production, more sustainable.
“Over the years we have made many changes to improve the efficiency of our operations which we now believe are good steps for sustainability: water recycling, more efficient growing practices which use less energy and fewer pesticides are a few examples,” said van Hoven. “…we are firing up the ‘campfire’ on our new biomass boiler which will provide our primary source of energy for the greenhouses, eliminating fossil fuel energy except as a backup source of energy.”
van Hoven said the company is looking forward to receiving MPS reports that will provide comparisons with other growers and will be used as a management tool by the company.

MPS Certification

MPS-ABC is recognized worldwide as the environmental scorecard with over 4,000 participants in 55 countries. The basic principles of the system are a registration of 5 themes: use of crop protection agents / fertilizers / energy / water and waste, on a periodic basis. Through the qualification (MPS A, B or C), a grower is compared to other growers of similar crops in similar environments.
